WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to Lake Bluff School District 65! We are excited to welcome your child to Kindergarten at Lake Bluff Elementary School and have packed this page with lots of information that you will need to know about the process for entering Kindergarten this Fall.
To get started, follow the instructions below.
TIMELINE FOR KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Step 1 - Pre-Registration
The first step in the process is to pre-register your child for Kindergarten. This information is imported into our student information system and will allow us to begin to plan appropriately for staffing.
PLEASE NOTE: State law and Board of Education Policy requires that all students entering kindergarten in the Fall of 2019 must turn five years old on or before September 1, 2019. In some situations, students who turn five on or before October 31, 2019 may qualify for early entrance. Please click here for more information.
Step 2 - Learn More, Officially Register
After you have pre-registered your child, you will want to learn more about Kindergarten in District 65 and you will need to officially register your child.
- Kindergarten Parent Information Night
Mrs. Margaret St. Claire and the Lake Bluff Elementary School Kindergarten Team will host a Kindergarten Parent night on January 30, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. During that evening, parents and families will be able to learn more about our kindergarten programs, the curriculum, and tour the school. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
- Register your child - Officially
February 4, 2019 - 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Lake Bluff Park District (355 West Washington Avenue, Lake Bluff)
February 4, 2019 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. -
Lake Bluff Elementary School (350 West Washington Avenue, Lake Bluff)
After February 4, 2018:
121 East Sheridan Place
Lake Bluff, IL 60044
In order to officially register your child for Kindergarten, we need to verify that you live in the Lake Bluff School District and begin to gather hard copies of the information about your child. To do this, you will need to bring your child's birth certificate and at least three documents verifying your residency. A list of the acceptable documents (you need three of them) can be found by clicking here.
Step 3 - Kindergarten Screening
Those children who register on February 4, 2019 will be able to set up an appointment for Kindergarten Screening when they verify residency. The two dates for screening will be in April 2019.
At the screening, your child will meet with a teacher who will assess your child's skills in the areas of academics (early literacy & early numeracy), fine and gross motor skills, and speech/language. The information from this screening will be used to help place your child in an appropriate classroom with the right level of support.
While your child is being screened, you will be able to tell our team more about your child and notify us of any concerns that you might have through the completion of a survey.
You will also be able to drop off your child's medical information (see Step 5 Below).
Step 4 - Choose Full-Day or Half-Day
On or around May 7, 2019 parents of all children who have been screened for Kindergarten will receive an e-mail with information about how to complete the registration process, pay your fees, and verify your emergency information. During the 2018- 2019 school year, most of our students chose to be in the full day program and there is no difference in the cost between the two.
Student fees for the 2019 - 2020 school year for Kindergarten will be approved by the Board of Education in late January or early February.
Please note, all students must be paid in full by the first day of school!
Step 5 - Bring in Your Child's Medical Information
In order to begin school, we need to have a current physical and record of immunizations on file. You may drop off your child's medical information on either of the Kindergarten Screening Days or during the summer.
Your child will need to have the following documents on file in order to begin school. For a list of required documents, please click here.
Students who require the use of medication during the day MUST have a form on file with the school nurse. The forms are found below:
The school nurse at Lake Bluff Elementary School is Mrs. Marlene Balling and you can send her an e-mail with any questions that you might have about health records. Additionally, she can be reached by phone at 847-234-9405.
