Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65 is a public body and most of the records that it maintains are open for inspection and/or copying by individuals through the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) (5 ILCS 140/1 et.seq). Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, these records may be accessed by the public upon written request.  Board Policy 2:250 and the Illinois School Code governs the timeline for how our school district responds to these requests.

Requests must be submitted in writing and can either be mailed or emailed using the information below.

Each month, the Board of Education receives a report from the FOIA Officer regarding the status of any requests that have come in since the Board last met.

Public Records
The District’s public records are defined as records, reports, forms, writings, letters, memoranda, books, papers, maps, photographs, microfilms, cards, tapes, recordings, electronic data processing records, electronic communications, recorded information and all other documentary material pertaining to the transaction of public business, regardless of physical form or characteristics, having been prepared by or for, or having been or being used by, received by, in the possession of, or under the control of the School District.

Please note:  Records pertaining to individual students are not considered public records.  Individual student records may be obtained by requesting the records from the Director of Student Services, Technology, & Assessment via e-mail at krubenstein@lb65.org.

General Information about Lake Bluff School District 65 (in compliance with (5 ILCS 140/4) (from Ch. 116, par. 204)
Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65 has existed since 1895 for the sole purpose of educating students in the communities of Lake Bluff and Knollwood, Illinois.  The District operates two buildings:

  • Lake Bluff Elementary School located at 350 West Washington Ave. and;
  • Lake Bluff Middle School located at 31 East Sheridan Place.

The District also has an administrative office located in the lower level of the Middle School (121 East Sheridan Place).  The seven members of the Board of Education are elected by the community and these Board members choose a superintendent to oversee all operations of the school district.  The superintendent hires additional administrators and staff members to oversee departments including finance and operations, student services, technology, assessment, curriculum, instruction, and human resources.  The District has an overall budget of close to $17 million and nearly 125 employees.
