World Language
The Lake Bluff world language curriculum reflects the latest modern language research and pedagogy, and is based on the Standards for Foreign Language Learning of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (link opens in new window). The curriculum contains a mixture of communication goals and is thematically based so that language learning is organized around interesting and engaging contexts. The focus is on what the students can do with the language as opposed to what the students know about the language.
Beginning in Kindergarten, all students have the ability to take Spanish. Our Spanish program in grades Kindergarten through five focuses on developing effective speaking and listening skills for students.
In Middle School, students have the option of taking French or Spanish and the teachers work on developing skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in these languages. A small number of students choose not to take another language during their time in middle school.
