Andy and his family moved to Lake Bluff in the summer of 2011. They have two children at Lake Bluff Elementary School. Andy's wife, Lisa, a former teacher in Lake Forest and in Chicago Public Schools, has been very active in the PTO and is an active volunteer at the schools and in the community.

In 2004, Andy and Lisa founded Camp Hope, a residential summer camp for children with disabilities in the Chicago area.
Andy has been the Executive Director of LEAD, a non-profit drug prevention organization since May 2012, where he developed Text-A-Tip, a 24/7 crisis text line that is now available to more than 10 million people. Andy speaks in hundreds of schools per year across the United States.

Prior to his time at LEAD, Andy served as the Executive Director of the Peacebuilders Initiative on the Southside of Chicago, and as Executive Director of the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities for Catholic Charities in Florida, where he ran a summer camp for children and teens with disabilities.
